NELSON MANDELA'S GRANDSON TO VISIT TORONTO AND SHARE GRANDFATHER'S LEGACY OF HOPE AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: GALA EVENT

NELSON MANDELA'S GRANDSON TO VISIT TORONTO AND SHARE GRANDFATHER'S LEGACY OF HOPE AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: GALA EVENT

Lively evening includes Friends of Africa Humanity Awards celebrating

Canadians working for a healthy Africa

Wednesday, June 15, 2016Toronto – Nelson Mandela's grandson and the ambassador to the family name is coming to Canada for the first time to share his grandfather's story of hope and youth empowerment at a gala event on June 30.

The grassroots organization Help Fight Ebola Canada along with a number of community volunteers have planned and organized the event taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

The Mandela Legacy Lives On

Ndaba Mandela tells tales and shares the inspiring, and often amusing, anecdotes told to him directly from his doting grandfather. He describes both the joy and the strain he feels having the awesome responsibility of the world's expectations to be considered as the second chapter of the Mandela story.

The Village Idiom: Empowering Youth through Education, Interconnectivity and Employment

Ndaba also addresses the critical issue of how education and interconnectivity leads to employment in all areas – from the largest universities, to the smallest local schools. Ndaba also educates audiences on how to literally apply the tools it takes to realize his grandfather's eternal message of the importance of education in one's life.

Ndaba Mandela carries the lineal message of his grandfather through his role as founder and chairman of the Africa Rising Foundation.

"The issues facing youth in Africa are not dissimilar to those faced by Canadian young people, especially in the inner city," said Ndaba Mandela.

Mandela will be joined by young people to present The Friends of Africa Humanity Awards to Canadians who are bringing about positive change in Africa and around the world.

"Nelson Mandela had a long walk to freedom yet his footprints still remain," said Ammar Kamara, founder, Help Fight Ebola Canada. "Following in the footsteps of his iconic grandfather, Ndaba Mandela is carrying the torch of youth empowerment."

The Kiwanis Club of Toronto, which is making the Mandela event possible through financial and community support, believes the Kiwanis motto "Serving the Children of the World" will be extremely active during Ndaba's visit.

"Ndaba is a global ambassador of youth empowerment, constantly reminding us of his grandfather's enduring message of optimism," said Joe Elkerton, president, Toronto Kiwanis.

Proceeds raised during the Friends of Humanity Awards support educational initiatives, community programming, and on-site exhibitions through the Mandela's Africa Rising Foundation.
