Happy Pride Month! We celebrate our LGBTQ Members!
Despite the strives that have been made, much needs to be done for the Black LGBTQ community. Black LGBTQ persons still experience discrimination, invisibility & violence because of who they are and who they love.
It was a black trans woman? -Marsha P. Johnson, one of the main activists that led the 1969 Stonewall Riots. The Stonewall Riots led to the LGBTQ rights movement and pride celebrations around the world.
CABL will continue to make strives to recognize the struggles and legacy of Black LGBTQ persons in Canada. We join the Canadian Hispanic Bar Association in promoting Inside Out’s presentation of the documentary “Our Dance of Revolution”, directed by Phillip Pike. The film documents the stories of Black LGBTQ persons in Toronto over four decades. Details found here
In addition to recommending this documentary to all members, we suggest all members take the time to understand the struggle of our LGBTQ community. Other movies and history can be found at https://www.queerevents.ca/queer-history/queering-black-history-month.
