Ludmilla Jarda

Background

Ludmilla Jarda is a bilingual lawyer and an adjudicator at the Licence Appeal Tribunal. As an adjudicator, she engages in dispute resolution and decision making, and she helps insureds and insurers resolve no-fault accident benefits claims efficiently, proportionally, and in a timely manner.

Ludmilla is also an experienced litigator and has advised on issues relating to employment law, personal injury, and civil litigation. She has handled a variety of claims as well as workplace issues including wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, human rights issues, disability insurance claims and negotiated employment contracts. She has conducted trials and administrative tribunal hearings, and she has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Court, Licence Appeal Tribunal, and Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.

In addition to her legal career, Ludmilla enjoys teaching and mentoring. She was a legal instructor in the Law Practice Program at the University of Ottawa and an adjunct professor at Algonquin College in the paralegal and law clerk programs. She taught Civil Litigation, Employment Law, and Debtor and Creditor Rights. She is a member of Ottawa’s Advocacy Club, an organization that promotes trial advocacy skills, and she co-chaired the Advocacy Club Bootcamp on Trial Advocacy. She also coached law students enrolled in the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law’s Dispute Resolution and Professional Responsibility Program.

Ludmilla is an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers and the Black Female Lawyers Network, and she is actively involved in the Ottawa Chapter for these organizations. Further, she is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, and she has held various leadership positions within the organization’s Young Lawyers Division which led to occupying various positions on Board Committees such as the Equality Committee, Governance Committee, and Nominating Committee. Ludmilla is also the Legal Affairs Director for the Canadian Women of Colour Leadership Network.

In her spare time, Ludmilla enjoys travelling and experiencing other cultures as well as spending time with family and friends.
