Background

Julia Sproule, B.A.(Honours), LL.B., is an experienced legal advisor with a diversity of legal and leadership experience in private practice, industry and the non-profit sector.

In addition to private practice and in-house counsel roles, Julia previously held roles as a department Privacy Officer and Manager of Compliance & Ethics at Enbridge and as Associate Vice President, Operations at Legal Aid Alberta where she helped oversee and provide legal aid services throughout Alberta. Julia is active in the community as demonstrated through her work on the board of directors of Women Building Futures from 2016 to August 2023 and as Vice President of the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.

Julia was appointed to the role of Commissioner of the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and started her 5 year term on January 1, 2023. Julia is currently serving as the first ever Commissioner of the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission where she is responsible for overseeing the teacher discipline process in Alberta.
