Erika discovered her passion for the practice of family law and the beauty of Alberta when she was a summer law student with Alberta Justice. Originally from Montreal, she earned two law degrees in civil law and common law from McGill University. Prior to law school, she graduated from the John Molson School of Business with a major in finance and a minor in political science.
Erika began practising family law in 2007. She has extensive expertise in providing legal services and advice to adult and youth clients in divorce/separation, parenting/custody, child support, spousal support, matrimonial/family property, child protection and domestic violence matters. She has significant experience in conducting trials and hearings in The Alberta court of Justice and Court of King’s Bench in both Calgary and Edmonton.
Early on in her career as a litigator, she quickly came to realize that the costs and the stress of litigation negatively impacted her clients, their children, and their futures. She began to study alternatives to dispute resolution, including mediation and collaborative law. She firmly believes that resolving family matters in court should be the exception and not the rule. She has been a Registered Collaborative Family Lawyer since 2018.
In addition to her professional exploits, Erika has volunteered with various organizations including but not limited to:
