Background

Garrick Apollon is a seasoned corporate lawyer with nearly 20 years of experience, coupled with a profound dedication to professional development within the legal and business sectors. Since 2005, he has imparted his knowledge to students at the University of Ottawa, engaging in the education of law and business (MBA) students, and has extended his expertise to professionals across Canada and internationally through accredited continuing professional development (CPD) programs.

As a legal practitioner and scholar, Garrick has made notable academic contributions, authoring 10 publications in esteemed peer-reviewed American law journals. His academic foundation is extensive, holding an LL.B. in civil law from Laval University, a J.D. from the University of Ottawa, and two LL.M. degrees—one in International Business Law from Université Laval and another in Comparative Law (LLCM) from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (Penn Law). As an alumnus of Penn Law, his legal education is further enriched by studies in documentary filmmaking/visual legal advocacy at the Penn Program on Documentaries & the Law. Garrick has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2004 and holds the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Garrick is a passionate lawyer-filmmaker and the founder of CPE Studios. With 8 documentary films in his filmography, he has successfully combined his legal expertise with his creative passions, making significant contributions to visual legal advocacy and legal education.

Garrick’s commitment to social justice shines through his award-winning pro bono work and leadership in various legal and community organizations. He has been instrumental in fostering diversity and economic growth as program director of an entrepreneurship program for Black entrepreneurs at the University of Ottawa’s professional Development Institute.
