Background

Kyle Thompson (he/him) is a partner at Poulus Ensom Smith LLP. He is a litigator with a practice focused on complex commercial, administrative, and regulatory matters. He has conducted trials and appeals at all levels of court in British Columbia and assisted with matters up to the Supreme Court of Canada. He has prosecuted and defended regulatory proceedings in multiple provinces and conducts confidential investigations. Kyle regularly acts for corporations, individuals, and regulatory bodies.

He also acts pro bono on cases of public interest involving constitutional, administrative, and human rights issues. In addition to serving on CABL BC’s board, Kyle is the current board chair for Pivot Legal Society. Pivot is a non-profit which works in partnership with communities affected by poverty and social exclusion to address complex human rights issues through strategic litigation, high-impact public education, and advocacy campaigns.

Finally, Kyle co-coaches UBC’s team for the Isaac Moot organized by the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada. The Isaac Moot, which uniquely engages questions of both legal doctrine and critical race theory, is named after the late Chief Justice of the Federal Court, Julius Alexander Isaac—the first Black judge to sit on the Federal Court of Canada.
